Seasonal allergies have arrived UGH!!
Enjoying time in a garden or backyard can be so rewarding, but it’s incredibly frustrating when persistent sinus or allergy issues refuse to offer any relief.
For those who share my struggle, I have been seeking natural remedies to alleviate sinus issues and the discomfort caused by allergies.
After researching seasonal allergies, I was excited to dive into exploring natural remedies from Mother Nature.
An herb that I was introduced to last year is Stinging Nettle or just Nettle. It has been around since the Bronze Age and the strong leaves were used as fabric and were considered stronger than cotton.
Its healing properties did not come to light until 3rd century BC to treat snake bites as well as an antidote for poisons from hemlock and henbane both of which can be deadly if not used correctly.
So, what does all of this have to do with allergies you ask!!??
Stinging nettle was utilized by early European herbalists to treat coughs and tuberculosis, and, surprisingly, the herbs were smoked to address asthma. It functions as a natural antihistamine, reducing inflammation and allergic reactions.
I have tried the Stinging Nettle Tincture by Nicole Apelian, from her website. It worked!! I used it three times a day and the sneezing, watery eyes and nose went away!! I highly recommend her tinctures!!
This year I went a different route and decided to try teas. I went to Organical Botanicals and had Tanya and Nick set me up with a Stinging Nettle and Peppermint blend of leaves!! Tanya and Nick are simply amazing to work with and so knowledgeable.
This tea is SPOT ON!! The first day my eyes were calming down, even my sister, who has it worse than I was getting relief from the tea. We drink it in the morning and in the afternoon or evening. And the results do not disappoint.
The tea is an excellent alternative to keep available for those who prefer to avoid alcohol-based tinctures.
From the books I have read, including "The Healing Herbs" by Michael Castleman and "The Holistic Guide to Wellness" by Nicole Apelian, among others, I have gained confidence in using herbs and achieving positive results based on the knowledge they provide.
I always ask that everyone be responsible when using herbs and check with your Dr. if you have concerns.
